St. Mary's Hospital. Busby Perkins+Will collaborates on the design of renovations and additions for the Sunshine Coast's acute-extended care facility.
Busby Perkins+Will, in association with Farrow Partnership Architects Inc., have been retained by St. Mary's Hospital to upgrade their emergency, diagnostic imaging, ambulatory care and special care services. The identified intent included the construction of an attached structure to house these services and allow the renovation of vacated space to increase inpatient capacity. In addition, hospital staff requested the incorporation of a parallel and separate circulation area to enhance privacy and isolate sensitive movements.
The design team has explored 4 master plan options for the redevelopment to date, and identified 2 preferred plans: North A and B. While North A maintains the original identified intent, North B's design provides additional modern inpatient resources within the new structure and allows the renovations to create a more appropriate area for ambulatory care services. Both options will resolve the circulation issues. Upon completion of the redevelopment, the bed compliment at St. Mary's Hospital will include 47 medical / surgical beds, 3 LDRP beds, 8 SCU beds and 6 mental health beds, for a new total of 64. The increase in available beds and the modernization of the health services available at this facility will provide positive outcomes for patients and improve efficiency and effectiveness of hospital operation.
