Busby Perkins+Will is looking for a Senior Architect for its office in
Vancouver, B.C. to work on Higher Education projects and Mixed Use - Residential
Multi-family unit projects.
Experience: Professional degree in Architecture required and at least ten years
of professional experience working on Higher Education projects and/or local
Mixed Use - Residential Multi-family unit projects.
Essential Job Requirements:
- 10+ years architectural experience.
- Bachelor or Masters Degree in Architecture or higher, from a respected,
professional institution.
- Professional Registration preferred.
- Strong design skills required.
- Good working knowledge of sustainable building design.
- LEED AP or within 6 months of hire.
- Project management and client and consultant coordination skills required.
- Thorough knowledge of architectural design, documentation, detailing, building
materials and codes, construction techniques and costs, as well as building
material compatibility and characteristics.
- Practical knowledge of general architecture practice including programming, site
planning, civil, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering.
- Knowledge of industry standards, current product development, and architectural
practices.
- Experience with contract language, liability, indemnifications, and definitions.
- Management and leadership skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Collaborative and professional work ethic.
- Experience with Revit software preferred.
Design & Research Skills:
- Adheres to firm and project goals of excellence in design, execution, and
sustainability.
- Understand and use planning, programming and design principles
- Design in accordance with applicable codes and ordinances
- Performs material research for preparation of project specifications
- Collaborate with research staff on implementation of new technologies into
project designs
- Design within project schedules and budgets
- Direct the production of schematic and design development documents
- Coordinate the selection of materials, colors and finishes
- Review shop drawings, material samples and Construction Documents for
conformance with design concepts
- Supervise the review of design documents for compliance with program and design
concepts
- Identify design problems and generate viable solutions in quick, legible,
comprehensive sketches
- Prepare presentation materials
- Understand the building design concept and assist in its implementation
- Research special systems and functions
- Understand the technical implications of design decisions
- Understand and use appropriate graphic and modeling techniques to communicate
solutions
Management & Professional Skills:
- Presenting to, and consulting with, clients
- Coordinate with consultants, such as model builders and engineers
- Understand and participate in the functional organization of the project team
- Organize and estimate own time to execute tasks
- Check own work for errors, omissions and legibility
- Participation in Continuing Education Programs
- Respond to demand of peak periods without loss of quality, thoroughness and
accuracy
- Adjust to changes in assignments, conditions, techniques and priorities
- Participate in presentations and group situations
- Take directions and function as a cooperative member of a project team
- Interface with clients and employees tactfully and diplomatically
- Accept constructive criticism as a means for improvement
- Accept responsibility and seek out additional responsibility when appropriate
